PAPILLION, Neb. —

The 50 Mile March returned for its sixth year, as dozens of marchers took the trek between Lincoln and Omaha on Sunday.

The organizers, The 50 Mile March, say on average, 150 veterans are homeless at any given time here in Nebraska. The march was to bring awareness to veterans’ health issues.

Kim Kavulak, a board member for The 50 Mile March, was one of six original participants in the first-ever march, back in 2020. She says, “For us to be able to support these, these veterans, people who have literally served for us, that allow us to have the lives that we live and be able to support them in this way, is amazing.”

Kavulak also says that what helps motivate her through the 50-mile trek is thinking about the barriers veterans face accessing resources.
