Everly Brothers return to their old stomping grounds in Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1986

SHENANDOAH, Iowa —

The Everly Brothers returned to their hometown, Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1986 for a homecoming concert.

Phillip and Don Everly actually got their start in showbusiness in Shenandoah, Iowa, joining their father’s morning radio show.

“My husband, if it was wintertime like it was a lot of times was and cold, he’d go out and start the car. I would make hot chocolate for them, and they’d drink the hot chocolate and get in the car and we’d take off for the radio station. We never missed a morning,” said their mother Margaret Everly.

When the popularity of live radio began to wane in the late 1950s, the family moved to Nashville, and it was here that they got their big break with their song “Bye Bye Love.”

And in 1986, the brothers returned to their old stomping grounds to play for their hometown.
