The Florida man who was arrested after a fight with an officer inside a fast food restaurant in Lincoln has been linked to a homicide in Iowa, authorities said.According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a disturbance at an Arby’s near South 27th Street and Nebraska Parkway around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday.PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Florida man accused of trying to take officer’s gun inside an Arby’s, Lincoln police say”The officer made contact with Bertolino in the restroom. Chris Vollmer, with the Lincoln Police Department, said.Shrapnel hit the officer, injuring him, police said.Joseph Bertolino, 37, of Jacksonville, Florida, was arrested for attempted first-degree assault on a police officer.According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, while Bertolino was in custody, he “made concerning statements” in regard to an incident at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Carter Lake that had happened earlier in the day on Tuesday.This prompted Lincoln police to contact Carter Lake police.Officials said around the same time, a witness contacted the authorities in Carter Lake to request a welfare check on a man at the same hotel Bertolino mentioned.Carter Lake officials conducted a welfare check and found a deceased male inside a hotel room at the Country Inn and Suites on Owen Parkway Circle. An autopsy has been scheduled for the deceased male whose identity is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification.
