Nebraska Football drops ticket prices ahead of home opener

LINCOLN, Neb. —

In less than 40 days, Cornhusker Football will kickoff in their home opener against the University of Ohio. For a short time, the team offered four tickets to that game for only $100.

Earlier this summer, they offered two tickets for $50 in honor of America’s 250th birthday. Then they added a Cole Swindell concert following the North Dakota game. Some believe these flash sales and additions to games are the university’s way of protecting its 60-year home game sellout streak.

For 410 games since 1962, Nebraska Football has sold out every single home game in Memorial Stadium. But that could all end before any game.

“You look at what the sellout streak means. It is the one thing that kind of bridges the beginning of kind of when Nebraska football got going in the early 60s to now, you know, where it kind of links all generations of fans together that they were a part of this,” Big Red Zone Insider Sean Callahan said.

Callahan said it’s not easy to sell out over 400 college football games in a state of under 2 million people.

“They’ve done things like this in the past. But yeah, nothing to this extent for maybe a season opener,” Callahan said.

Nebraska fan Michael Young said this is one thing that all Nebraska fans are proud of because it’s something they have that no one else has.

Young said he’s excited for the flash sales and hopes this will give more people the opportunity to attend games who usually couldn’t afford it.

During Cornhusker football games, Lincoln Memorial Stadium becomes the third-highest populated place in Nebraska. This means about one in every 20 people is at the stadium on a game day.

Callahan said game days in Lincoln are more than just the 3.5 hours at the stadium. It’s a time when friends and families can come together.
