Former Nebraska City neurosurgeon seeks insanity defense in child sexual assault case
OMAHA, Neb. —
A former Nebraska City neurosurgeon facing child sexual assault charges has filed his intent to rely on the insanity defense, according to a new court document.
Defendant Travis Tierney will now be evaluated to determine whether or not he was insane at the time the alleged crime was committed.

Tierney now only faces charges in Douglas County after Sarpy County prosecutors closed their case against him. Sarpy County Corrections extradited Tierney to the custody of Douglas County Corrections in April.
Tierney was previously declared competent to stand trial in both counties after his defense requested evaluations.
The most recent court document shows a Douglas County judge has ordered Tierney to be evaluated by doctors at the Lincoln Regional Center.
Those Forensic Mental Health doctors will then make a report for the judge, state, and defense.
