Former PGA golfer Matt McQuillan dead at 45

Matt McQuillan, a former PGA Tour golfer, has died.

He was 45.

McQuillan died Aug. 5 at a hospital in Kingston, Ontario, tour officials announced. His cause of death was not immediately known.

The Canadian golfer turned professional in 2003 after playing collegiately at Oklahoma State and the University of Georgia.

After playing on the Canadian tour and developmental circuits, McQuillan earned his PGA Tour card through qualifying school in 2010 and competed in 32 tour events throughout his career, recording three top-10 finishes.

His best PGA Tour result was a tie for third at the 2011 John Deere Classic, helping him reach a career-high world ranking of No. 330.

McQuillan later worked as a teaching professional in his hometown of Kingston.

“Matty was a respected golfer, devoted son, hilarious brother, and friend. His father, Mark, started teaching him how to swing the club at the young age of ten and his passion and talent grew immensely,” his obituary reads in part.
