Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith, ex-UFC fighter, appeared in court Wednesday facing three felony charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident involving his wife

OMAHA, Neb. —

Anthony “Lionheart” Smith, a former UFC fighter and current Paramount and CBS UFC analyst, appeared in a Sarpy County courtroom Wednesday morning, facing three felony charges related to an alleged domestic violence incident.

Prosecutors said the incident began Sunday night when Smith was kicked out of a concert at Gretna Days following an altercation. They alleged that Smith tried to force his wife into a car, threatening to kill her if she did not comply.

“He had to push her into the car by force to get her there. She did ultimately exit the car at one point. He threatened to kill her again if she did not get in the car,” prosecutors said.

Once back at their Gretna home, Smith allegedly reversed the car in an attempt to hit his wife and then accelerated while she was in front of the vehicle. Prosecutors say Smith’s wife had to jump out of the way. Witnesses reportedly helped her and their children leave the home after Smith retreated inside.

According to prosecutors, witnesses heard gunshots from inside the home and Smith stated he would kill himself if law enforcement entered.

Smith, a former UFC title challenger, has been charged with domestic assault causing serious bodily injury, first-degree false imprisonment, and terroristic threats.

A Sarpy County judge set Smith’s bond at $500,000 and ordered him to have no contact with his wife. Smith’s defense team stated he plans to stay in Nebraska City with a family friend after posting bond.

Smith waived his preliminary hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 17 in Sarpy County.
