Ghirardelli cocoa mixes recalled for salmonella risk

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company has voluntarily recalled a handful of its powdered beverage mixes due to possible salmonella contamination. According to a news release from the company, the impacted products were packaged in larger quantities intended for food service customers. However, some of the mixes may have been sold online and could be in home kitchens. In a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Ghirardelli recall is linked to a separate milk powder recall by California Dairies, Inc., whose product was later distributed as an ingredient in powdered beverage mixes, including Ghirardelli’s.”Neither we, our third-party manufacturer, nor the milk powder supplier have received reports of illness or injury related to this issue to date, and our own rigorous testing has not identified any impacted powdered beverage mixes,” the company said in a statement. Retailers that received an impacted powdered beverage mix should contact Ghirardelli’s dedicated hotline (1-855-744-1426) for instructions on returns and receiving a replacement or refund.
