Golfers, supporters raise money for Omaha Crime Stoppers at annual tournament

OMAHA, Neb. —

Golfers hit the links on Monday to help support Omaha Crime Stoppers.

The event brought together sponsors, supporters and teams, including KETV’s Bill Schammert and Bill Randby, for a day of golf and a good cause at Champion’s Run in Omaha.

The tournament, which also raises money for scholarships with the Metropolitan Hospitality Association, helps fund Omaha Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers does not use money from the Omaha Police Department.

Monday’s event raised about $20,000.

“We use the money towards paying out community members who offer anonymous tips that lead to the solving of crimes,” said officer Sarah Martier, Crime Stoppers coordinator for Omaha police.

She said a recent hit-and-run that left someone seriously injured was solved thanks to one of those anonymous tips.
