I’M NATE STANLEY. NOW TO THE HANTAVIRUS OUTBREAK. WE GOT AN UPDATE TODAY FROM HEALTH OFFICIALS HERE IN NEBRASKA MONITORING THE PEOPLE INSIDE THE NATIONAL QUARANTINE UNIT AT UNMC. THEY SAY NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED, BUT WE’RE NOW HEARING A PATIENT IN FRANCE IS FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE. DOCTORS SAY SHE’S SUFFERING FROM THE MOST SEVERE OUTCOME OF THE VIRUS, WITH LIFE THREATENING DAMAGE TO HER LUNGS AND HEART. THE WOMAN IS NOW BEING TREATED WITH AN ARTIFICIAL LUNG. AS THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION SAYS, THE OUTBREAK HAS GROWN TO 11 REPORTED CASES WORLDWIDE, INCLUDING THREE DEATHS. IN OMAHA, 16 PEOPLE REMAIN UNDER OBSERVATION INSIDE THE NATIONAL QUARANTINE UNIT. TODAY WE HEARD FROM A HANTAVIRUS PASSENGER WHO IS A DOCTOR IN ISOLATION IN THE BIOCONTAINMENT UNIT. HE SAYS ONE OF HIS TESTS REPRESENTS EVOLVING DISEASE AND HE MAY GET SYMPTOMS DOWN THE ROAD.
