The Omaha Inland Port Authority revealed the future site of its headquarters at Ames Avenue and North 28th Street, marking the first phase of a $30 million innovation district aimed at revitalizing North Omaha.

OMAHA, Neb. —

The Omaha Inland Port Authority (OIPA) unveiled the future site of its headquarters Tuesday morning at Ames Avenue and North 28th Street, marking the first phase of a $30 million innovation district aimed at revitalizing North Omaha.

“We’re putting investment into a community that has been disinvested for so long. The work starts now,” said Yolanda Williams, OIPA Business Operations Manager.

OIPA announced that the heart of North Omaha will serve as the authority’s permanent home, with the innovation district designed to foster investment, workforce development, and economic growth.

Community leaders, elected officials, and neighbors gathered to celebrate the milestone.

Garry Clark, OIPA’s chief executive officer, said their goal is to create housing, commercial retail and community space in the district.

Clark emphasized the significance of the location and its potential.

“This corridor is key and prime because it is one of the busiest intersections in the city,” he said. “We see this as a potential epicenter for tourism, transportation, economic development.”

Clark also highlighted the authority’s mission to connect infrastructure improvements with job creation and business development.

“It’s sustainable. It’s long-term. It’s job creation to the tune of $350 billion nationally,” he said.

Omaha Councilmember LaVonya Goodwin described the unveiling as a monumental step in turning years of planning into visible progress.

“We’re building something that can bring us all together, not just now but for decades to come,” Goodwin said.

The event marked a significant step toward fostering community and economic development in Omaha.
