Iowa Department of Natural Resources redefines deer hunting zones
Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources is changing the state’s deer hunting season.
They’re dividing the state into A and B zones.

Zone B includes Lyon, Sioux, O’Brien, Plymouth, Woodbury, Ida, Crawford and Shelby counties.
The rest of the state is zone A.
Zone B licenses will only be for antlered bucks, and party hunting is not allowed.
On Tuesday night in Hinton, Iowa, the DNR held the first of four public meetings regarding the changes.
Officials said that the biggest reason for the change is because of the declining deer population.
“I think in general people are very happy to see something being done. There’s always certain the new zones will stay in place until the deer population recovers. The DNR is holding two additional meetings this week. We do want to hear from people that are going to be impacted more than others and make sure that they understand our rationale,” Jace Elliot, Iowa deer biologist, said.
