Iowa lawmakers set to debut new policies on July 1
New driving laws in Iowa will take effect on July 1.
On two-lane highways, the speed limit will change from 55 to 60 miles per hour, and cities and counties will still be able to set lower speed limits on roads they manage.

Tow companies will now have to accept different types of payment if they want to release cars.
If you’re applying for a license to drive a semi-truck, school bus or other vehicle, you’ll need to show you can read, write and speak English well enough to safely operate a vehicle.
You’ll also have to be able to communicate with law enforcement and understand road signs.
Violators could face a fine of up to $1,000 and up to a year in jail.
Also starting Wednesday, Iowans seeking abortion medication will need to see a doctor in person.
Animal torture of a companion animal will also become a felony on the first offense, with tougher penalties for repeat offenders.
