Iowa volleyball tournament raises funds for boy battling leukemia

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —

Dozens of people gathered at a sand volleyball court in Iowa to support Liam, a young boy diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Liam’s family said he is currently undergoing a two-and-a-half-year treatment plan.

After collaborating with one of Liam’s classmate’s parents, a volleyball tournament was organized to help cover the costs of his treatment.

“Liam goes to school with my son Conway, and so I reach out to her. She plays volleyball here on Friday. Peter said, do you want to have a fundraiser here just to help us kind of the personal fund to pay for all the treatments,” Whitney Cox said.

Twelve teams participated in the event.

According to the National Cancer Institute, 49 out of every 1 million children will develop leukemia before the age of 19.
