The 22-year-old woman convicted in the shooting of a 6-year-old on New Year’s Eve in 2024 had her sentence handed down by a judge Monday afternoon.Tayzhia Hampton was sentenced to one year in prison. Hampton pleaded no contest to second-degree assault in the shooting, which occurred near 26th and Blondo streets on Dec. 31, 2024.Witness statements included in court documents describe that the 6-year-old and a sibling were sitting watching TV in their home when they heard five or six gunshots. Tayzhia wrote a handwritten letter to the victim apologizing for the incident,” officers said.
