Judge temporarily blocks America First Party recognition after Nebraska GOP claims voter confusion
LINCOLN, Neb. —
A district court judge granted a temporary injunction to not recognize a new political party in Nebraska, according to court documents.
The Nebraska Republican Party filed the motion to temporarily block Secretary of State Bob Evnen from recognizing the America First Party, court documents state.

The injunction also temporarily blocks Evnen from certifying any candidates using the America First Party name, according to court documents.

On Aug. 7, the America First Party submitted enough signatures as part of the process to appear on the November ballot. They must submit a party constitution, bylaws, and list of officers by Aug. 26. If they miss that deadline, they can’t be certified.
The founder of the America First Party told KETV that the party plans to put forward candidates for the November ballot.
The Nebraska Republican Party claims the acceptance and certification would cause “irreparable injury” to the party, court documents state.
According to court documents, the Nebraska Republican Party claims the America First Party is intended to cause voter confusion, because “America First” is typically associated with the Trump Administration.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for Aug. 12.
Nebraska Democratic Party seeks injunction against new political party
The Nebraska Democratic Party is also asking for an injunction against another new political party.
The party claimed the Working People Party is designed to mislead voters by mimicking the “Working Families Party” name.
The suit alleged the Working People Party is designed to mislead voters, mimicking both the Working Families Party’s name and echoing the quote “working people deserve a seat at the table” message central to independent U.S. Senate candidate Dan Osborn’s campaign.
