KETV, Salvation Army hold annual back-to-school backpack program drive

OMAHA, Neb. —

With metro-area families facing economic hardships, the Salvation Army and KETV are helping by organizing a back-to-school backpack program.

“We know that when kids have a great start to the school year, it just sets them up for success,” said President and CEO of Methodist Health System Josie Abboud. “So events like this are so important to get those kids started on the right track.”

KETV NewsWatch 7 was at Methodist Women’s Hospital with the Salvation Army, helping collect donations for the back-to-school backpack program.

Some families have been donating to the program for years. Gunnar, an eighth grader whose family has supported the effort, said he wanted to help students who may not have as much.

“We think of the people that don’t have a lot, and so we wanted to give them something so that they can have fun at school and just go,” Gunnar said.
