Lancaster County authorities teach Nebraska districts about active shooters, tactical medicine

LINCOLN, Neb. —

Train for the worst and hope for the best. That’s the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office’s motto when it comes to active violence situations in a school environment.

The police department teamed up with the Malcolm School District on Wednesday for active shooter and tactical medical training.

Multiple law enforcement and EMS agencies also took part in the action, along with school staff.

Deputies said that it’s important to do these trainings at least once a year at a different school in the county.

This makes it easier for authorities to acquaint themselves with the school if something bad does happen.

“If this incident does occur, the community needs to know our departments. It could be Lincoln Fire and Rescue or rural fire and rescues around the county. Our law enforcement agencies are all working together and training together to make sure that if this ever happens that we’re on top of it,” said John Brady, Lancaster County deputy sheriff.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has been doing active violence training for about 10 years.
