Legalize Marijuana Now candidate exits Nebraska Senate race, urges supporters to back Dan Osborn

OMAHA, Neb. —

The Legalize Marijuana Now nominee for U.S. Senate in Nebraska has dropped out of the race and has endorsed Dan Osborn.

Mike Marvin cited “serious health issues” in a statement Friday.

“In 2017 I retired from NAPE with serious health issues. During a recent follow up visit doctors determined my condition has worsened,” Marvin said. “Once again for me this has always been about defeating Pete Ricketts, and with my worsening condition, I know I cannot put in the effort this race requires.. I will be remaining on the ballot, but I am now urging all who supported me to now support Dan Osborn.”

The two candidates in the race for U.S. Senate are now Osborn, an independent candidate, and Pete Ricketts, the Republican incumbent.

Marvin missed the deadline to remove his name from the ballot, so he will still appear on November’s ballot.

In July, Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen said Cindy Burbank, the Democratic nominee, will not appear on the ballot in November.

William Forbes, a former U.S. Senate candidate, filed the lawsuit against the Nebraska Democratic Party after Burbank dropped out of the race. That litigation is still pending.
