After Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sudden death on Saturday, local leaders in Nebraska and Iowa are reacting to the news.
Graham, a longtime Republican senator from South Carolina, who had become one of President Donald Trump’s staunchest political allies, died after a “brief and sudden” illness, his office said in a statement. He was 71.

Sen. Pete Ricketts:
“Lindsey Graham defined the word patriot. He was a strong advocate for freedom and a friend. His passion for South Carolina and the United States were unmatched. I am deeply saddened by this loss to our nation. Susanne and I are praying for his family and team. He will be greatly missed.”

The D.C. Medical Examiner’s preliminary findings regarding Graham’s death found “Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular disease.”
