‘The drive was too long’: Wisconsin man tells deputy he flew helicopter to store to avoid driving
Pilot not cited, faces no violations

RICHFIELD, Wis. —
A Wisconsin man reportedly decided to take matters into his own hands to avoid a 50-minute drive to a Cabela’s store.
A 69-year-old pilot flew from Rosendale, Wisconsin, to Richfield, Wisconsin, landing in a Cabela’s parking lot, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin. The two towns are about 50 miles apart and northwest of Milwaukee.

A deputy responded to the helicopter landing around 6 p.m. Saturday.
The pilot told the deputy, in his words, “the drive was too long.”
The pilot was properly licensed, landed safely, and complied with all applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations, the sheriff’s office said.
The man was not cited and faces no violations.
“We can honestly say this isn’t your everyday parking complaint,” the sheriff’s office said.
