Methodist Health System is teaming up with the Nebraska Diaper Bank for the ‘Be the Change’ Diaper Drive
Make a difference in the lives of children facing diaper insecurity
NEWSWATCH SEVEN SKYCAM NETWORK. METHODIST HEALTH SYSTEM IS HAVING A MOTHER’S DAY DIAPER DRIVE. THE EVENT AIMS TO HELP CHILDREN WHO MAY BE FACED WITH DIAPER INSECURITY. HERE TO TELL US MORE ABOUT THAT IS VICE PRESIDENT OF METHODIST WOMEN’S HOSPITAL, PATTY BAUER. PATTY. SO TELL ME ABOUT THE DRIVE. HOW EXACTLY DOES IT WORK? WELL, THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. OF COURSE. SO FIRST OF ALL, METHODIST HEALTH SYSTEM IS REALLY PROUD TO PARTNER WITH NEBRASKA DIAPER BANK. AND THEY ARE AN IMPORTANT PARTNER OF OURS. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A DIAPER DRIVE CALLED BE THE CHANGE. AND THAT DIAPER DRIVE IS ON MAY 7TH. IT IS FROM 7 A.M. TO 6 P.M. IT’S A ONE DAY DROP OFF EVENT, AND IT’S AT FOUR LOCATIONS WHERE YOU CAN DROP OFF. METHODIST JENNIE EDMUNDSON METHODIST WOMEN’S HOSPITAL, METHODIST, FREMONT HEALTH AND THEN AT OUR METHODIST PHYSICIAN CLINIC, INDIAN HILLS LOCATION. AND IT’S NOT JUST DIAPERS. PEOPLE CAN DONATE OTHER ITEMS TOO, RIGHT? ACTUALLY, IT IS JUST IT IS JUST DIAPERS. OKAY. THIS EVENT IS FOCUSED ON DIAPERS. THEY CAN BE IN OPEN PACKAGES, UNOPENED PACKAGES. YOU SIMPLY JUST PULL UP, POP YOUR TRUNK, AND WE WILL TAKE IT FROM THERE. AWESOME. AND TALK TO ME. YOU KNOW, FOR PEOPLE WHO MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT EXACTLY IS DIAPER INSECURITY AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT MOMS HERE IN OMAHA? RIGHT. SO DIAPER INSECURITY IS REALLY JUST BABIES WHO ARE AT RISK BECAUSE THEIR FAMILIES MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE AMOUNT OF DIAPERS THAT THEY REALLY NEED TO HAVE. AND SO HERE IN THE STATE OF NEBRASKA AND POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, THERE ARE 27,000 CHILDREN WHO ARE AT RISK FOR DIAPER INSECURITY. SO THIS IS A REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT DRIVE. IT’S A REALLY IMPORTANT ISSUE. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY, DIAPERS ARE A BASIC NEED AND NECESSITY AND NOT ALL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS WILL COVER THEM. SO WE REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT MOMS AND BABIES HAVE WHAT THEY NEED TO BE HEALTHY. THEY WANT TO TAKE AWAY THAT STRESS. HAVING A A DIAPER SUPPLY THAT IS RELIABLE WILL HELP TAKE CARE OF SOME OF THAT STRESS. WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO DO THIS AROUND MOTHER’S DAY? WELL, WE REALLY WANT TO HONOR MOTHERS AND BABIES. YOU KNOW, METHODIST HEALTH SYSTEM, THAT WE ARE VERY MUCH ALIGNED WITH NEBRASKA DIAPER BANK IN OUR MISSION TO REALLY ENSURE THAT MOMS AND BABIES ARE CARED FOR AND THAT THEY ARE LIVING THEIR BEST LIFE. SO WE ARE DOING IT IN HONOR OF MOTHER’S DAY. SO SPECIAL. ALL RIGHT
