Millard church says rising costs were a contributor to decision to bring back their back-to-school event
OMAHA, Neb. —
Lord of Hosts Church in Millard held its first back-to-school event in six years, offering free backpacks, school supplies, and activities for children in the community.
Kids attending the event could receive a backpack filled with school supplies, see a police cruiser and fire truck, watch balloon artists, and get their face painted.

“We just want to make sure that local kids, kids from our area all over Omaha have an opportunity to get a free backpack. Free supplies. Come check out the church. And that’s just a win-win, I think, for everybody,” Bob Pettigrew said.
Organizers also noted that the rising cost of living contributed to the decision to bring the event back after a six-year hiatus.
