Miller Park trust enters agreement with Omaha, looks to improve park using nonprofit funding

IOWA’S RATE OF 3.4% THAT MONTH. CHANGES ARE COMING TO MILLER PARK IN NORTH OMAHA. WELL, THE CITY HAS TURNED OVER MAINTENANCE FOR MUCH OF THE PARK TO A THIRD PARTY. KETV NEWSWATCH 7 ERIN HAGERTY REPORTS. THE OMAHA CITY COUNCIL APPROVED AN AGREEMENT WITH THE MILLER PARK TRUST ON TUESDAY. THE TRUST WILL MAINTAIN THE PARK EXCEPT FOR THE POOL, GOLF COURSE AND FOUNTAIN. THE TRUST WILL ADD SECURITY CAMERAS, INSTALL SECURITY GATES AND ADVERTISE THE PARK, BUT THE CITY WILL STILL OWN THE PARK. THE CITY ENTERED INTO A FIVE YEAR AGREEMENT BUT CAN CANCEL IT WITH NOTICE. THE LARGER FOUNDATION FUNDS THE TRUST AND HAS INVESTED HEAVILY IN THE PARK FOR AROUND A DECADE, THEY ADDED. THE TRAIL, PLAYGROUND, SPLASH PAD, FOUNTAIN AND MORE. THE LOGAN FOUNDATION’S PROGRAM DIRECTOR TELLS ME. THE PRESIDENT OF THE MILLER PARK NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION IS THRILLED TO SEE THE AGREEMENT. WE’RE EXCITED BECAUSE WE THINK THIS IS GOING TO BRING. WE KNOW THIS IS GOING TO BRING RESOURCES TO THE PARK THAT IT NEEDS AND ADDITIONAL PROGRAMING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF REALLY THE VERY NICE FACILITIES THAT WE HAVE HERE. The trust will maintain most of the park, excluding the golf course, pool and fountain. The Miller Park Trust will be required to add security cameras, install security gates, and advertise the park. The city will retain ownership of the park and can cancel the agreement with 90 days’ notice. The Lozier Foundation funds the trust and has invested heavily in Miller Park for nearly a decade. The nonprofit added the trail, playground, splash pad, fountain, and more, the Lozier Foundation’s Tahnee Markussen told KETV.
