Mitch McConnell released from rehab center, senator announces

Sen. Mitch McConnell was released from a rehabilitation center and will continue recovering at home, the Republican lawmaker announced Thursday.
McConnell, Kentucky’s senior senator, had been hospitalized on June 14 after reportedly falling and suffering undisclosed injuries. He also developed a mild case of pneumonia.

In Thursday’s update, McConnell said he and his wife, former Secretary Elaine Chao, were grateful for the care provided by his doctors, nurses and therapists, as well as the support from colleagues and constituents.
He added that he will continue physical therapy at home and is not yet returning to the Senate.
“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,” McConnell said.
The 84-year-old former Senate majority leader was also hospitalized in February for flu-like symptoms.
He is not running for reelection and is set to leave office in January 2027.
