About 20 years ago, Ian Aspuria moved to the United States to live with his father, while his mother stayed in the Philippines to raise his siblings. The absence of communication between mother and son was unbearable, and his mother would pray every day that she would one day be with her son again. A few years ago, Aspuria’s mother, Nerry, was able to immigrate to the United States. One of her three daughters lives in Louisiana and quietly searched for her brother, whose full name and whereabouts were unknown to her and her mother.“As I grow old and become mature, I realize that there is a missing piece in our family. And that is having my mother and my brother reunite again. And so, me and my brother planned all of this to have them reunite after 20 years, on her 60th birthday.”Finally, her efforts paid off, and her mother got a special surprise for her birthday: her son flying in from Florida to see her.”Very blessed. Very thankful to have a sister like her to make everything happen,” said Ian Aspuria, Nerry’s son. “It wouldn’t be possible without her making it happen. I was very nervous at the time, but it was just a lot of emotions. But, very grateful.”It was a birthday his mother will never forget.”Happy birthday, Mom. Happy birthday. I hope you’re so happy today. And we love you. We love you.”
