National Baton Twirling Championships bring hundreds of athletes to Council Bluffs
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —
More than 600 baton twirlers from across the country are competing this week at the 2026 U.S. National Baton Twirling Championships at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
The weeklong competition, sanctioned by the United States Twirling Association, features athletes ranging from young children to adults competing in events including solo twirling, two-baton, artistic twirl, strut and team competitions. The championships also serve as a qualifier for athletes hoping to earn a spot on Team USA for the 2027 World Baton Twirling Championships in Liverpool, England.

USTA Director of Communications Anna Dolan said the event showcases the athleticism and dedication required to succeed in the sport.
“These athletes train like Olympians,” Dolan said. “Most of them have trained for many years, and this is the high point of their competition season.”
For returning national champion Micah Beaudoin, the competition is another opportunity to reach the international stage. Beaudoin said competing at the world championships is about more than earning medals.
“It’s so great to not just be at the world championships, but to experience the culture of where it’s taking place and to meet twirlers all around the world,” Beaudoin said.
This marks the first time the national championships have been held in the metro. Organizers say the Mid-America Center’s competition space and family-friendly amenities made it an ideal host venue.
The championships continue through Sunday and are free and open to the public.
