OMAHA, Neb. —

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen signed a back-to-school proclamation on Thursday.

“Thanks for the celebration. Have a good first day of school today,” Pillen said.

The governor also held a news conference with students, families and educators.

He primarily focused on managing screen time for kids.

“I think those are things that we do need to continue to address. The more that we can have our kids build relationships is really, really important. And then maybe lastly, it’s extraordinary what our teachers, the work our teachers put in our kids, and being able to help make sure that we can minimize behaviors that are distracting. That we can improve our discipline, our classrooms,” Pillen said.

The governor’s proclamation also prioritizes healthy foods in school cafeterias.
