The second break occurred on Friday, Aug. 7, and was located near one of the housing units. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says this leak had affected water to a significant portion of the facility.
More than 20,000 water bottles have been delivered to the facility since the initial water line break, alongside portable toilets.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services also says that staff have worked to keep yard time available, despite the water issues, and have worked to make sure there were no disruptions to medical care, visiting, or religious services.
They also mentioned water line breaks at the Nebraska State Penitentiary are not uncommon, likely due to aging infrastructure.
A contractor estimated the repair could be completed either tomorrow or Tuesday.
