Nebraska Supreme Court dismisses voter data lawsuit after release to DOJ

LINCOLN, Neb. —

The Nebraska Supreme Court dismissed an appeal over the release of voter data to the Department of Justice.

In a unanimous decision, the justices ruled that because Nebraska’s voter registration list had already been released to the DOJ, the matter is moot.

The appeal and cross-appeal were dismissed.

Common Cause sued Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen to block the release of voter information last September.

The organization said that while efforts failed before the Nebraska Supreme Court, a federal lawsuit filed in Washington D.C. is still pending.

“Voters need to feel safe, knowing that registering to vote will not subject them to data risks or intimidation,” Common Cause said in a statement.
