AROUND THE COUNTRY ARE ROOTING FOR NEBRASKA. WELL, YOU HEARD IT THERE. HUSKERS FANS BELIEVE AND NEBRASKA SOFTBALL TOOK THE FIRST STEP TO WIN THE WOMEN’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES WITH THE WALK OFF AGAINST ARKANSAS. THEY BELIEVE THAT WE CAN DO IT ALL. OMAHA’S SPORTS LEADERS IN OKLAHOMA CITY, KETV, NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S NOAH SACCO HAS THE POSTGAME REACTION. TENSE. EMOTIONAL. UNBELIEVABLE. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT. NEBRASKA SAVES THE BEST FOR LAST. ON THURSDAY NIGHT, HUSKERS OUTLAST ARKANSAS 5 TO 3 IN A TEN INNING MARATHON, CLINCHING ITS FIRST VICTORY AT THE WOMEN’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SINCE 2002. A TWO RUN WALK OFF HOME RUN BY AVA CUSACK SEALS IT FOR THE BIG RED OFF A TRIUMPHANT SWING SHE’LL NEVER FORGET. FELT GOOD OFF THE BAT, BUT I WASN’T SURE. AND THEN I JUST THREW MY HANDS UP, HOPING IT WAS GOING OUT. AND THEN I THINK THE TEARS STARTED COMING AROUND. THIRD, JUST SEEING ALL OF THESE GIRLS JUST ABSOLUTELY SCREAMING. AND I WAS LIKE, THERE’S JUST NO WAY THAT JUST HAPPENED. RIGHT? WHEN IT HIT HER BAT, I WAS LIKE, OH MY GOSH, WE JUST WON THE FREAKING GAME. I LITERALLY WAS LIKE, I HAD TO TURN AROUND AND LIKE, LOOK AT IT AND GO OVER. AS SOON AS AVA TURNED, I COULD SEE THE EMOTION. AND THAT JUST DREW IT OUT OF ALL OF US. AND THAT, I THINK, WAS ONE OF THE JUST HAPPIEST WORLD SERIES MOMENTS EVER. UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT FOR THE KUZAK FAMILIES. THEY RECEIVED THE HOME RUN BALL POST GAME, BUT THE EFFORT WAS COLLECTIVE. HANNAH KEPT THE HUSKERS ALIVE WITH A GAME TYING SOLO HOMER IN THE EIGHTH, WHILE JORDY FROM FOUGHT OFF FATIGUE IN THE CIRCLE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, ALLOWED JUST THREE RUNS OFF EIGHT HITS IN TEN INNINGS OF WORK. THE BACKBONE OF THE HUSKERS, 27TH STRAIGHT WIN. THIS TEAM IS INSANE. LITERALLY, IT COULD BE ANYBODY ON ANY GIVEN DAY. EVERYBODY IN OUR LINEUP IS MADE FOR THE MOMENT. AND THINKING BACK TO THE LAST TIME THE HUSKERS MADE THE SERIES IN 2013, RONALD REVELLE SAYS THIS YEAR’S TEAM JUST FEELS DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS. THIS TEAM HAS DEVELOPED THE BELIEF. I TALKED ABOUT IT A LOT FROM LOSING LAST YEAR IN SUPER REGIONALS AND WHAT THAT HAS DONE TO JUST GALVANIZE AND LEAN INTO ONE ANOTHER. PEOPLE EXECUTED IN THE MOMENT. NOW, THE HUSKERS ARE IN A FULL DAY OF REST ON FRIDAY, ADVANCING TO THE WINNER’S BRACKET, WHERE THEY’LL TAKE ON TOP OVERALL SEED ALABAMA ON SATURDAY AT 6:00. ONE STEP CLOSER TO ITS FIRST EVER NAT
