‘Where you lead, I will follow’: A ‘Gilmore Girls’ documentary is in the works

“Gilmore Girls” fans will soon be able to grab some coffee and head back to Stars Hollow for a behind-the-scenes look at the cozy series.
An untitled documentary about the Warner Bros. Television series about Lorelei Gilmore and her daughter, Rory, is currently in production for HBO Max, according to a news release from Warner Bros.

The documentary will offer “a rare insider view into the creation of ‘Gilmore Girls,’ told straight from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, featuring Lauren Graham as well as additional key cast and crew,” the release says. It will also reveal “how the show eclipsed expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique alchemy of the creators, cast, crew, and collaborators.”
Aside from behind-the-scenes footage, fans can also expect never-before-seen outtakes and script pages in the film.
Lauren Graham, the actress who portrays Lorelei Gilmore, posted the news on Instagram this week.
“Oh hey, hi… we’re making a documentary,” her caption says.
It’s unclear when the documentary will premiere or which other cast members will appear in the film.
The documentary, which is being directed by Bonni Cohen, “marks the first-ever authorized documentary about the series, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of its debut in 2025,” the release says.
“Gilmore Girls” aired seven seasons from 2000 to 2007; Netflix created a revival, “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” a series of four 90-minute episodes that premiered in 2016.
