New startup debuts Saturday by cleaning up Benson Park
OMAHA, Neb. —
Volunteers joined a cleanup effort at Benson Park on Saturday.
“Leave It Better When You Found It,” is a new startup aiming to repurpose cleaned-up materials to build self-sustaining community gardens in food deserts across Nebraska.

Its founder spoke about the startup’s debut on Saturday.
“It’s always daunting when you launch something and you say, who’s going to show up? Will you be there by yourself? But I’m really motivated and humbled that so many people believe in leaving it better than they found it as well, in their own community,” Michael Young said.
Young explained that his father and father-in-law’s passion for gardening and giving back inspired him to start the program.
He plans to expand the initiative to other communities, focusing on cleaning up local areas while giving back.
