NFM public relations and community manager Andy Shefsky said the store prepares for a major turnout each year as Berkshire visitors make their way west after the meeting downtown.

“We’re always prepared for thousands of folks here,” Shefsky said.

This year’s event featured live music, extended shopping hours and several food options for guests, including barbecue sandwiches, pasta salad and a dessert twist.

“They’re taking these cookies and warming them up in the pizza ovens to make an awesome ice cream sandwich,” Chayefsky said.

Beyond the food and entertainment, the picnic also doubled as a fundraiser.

NFM says $1 from every $7 meal sold went directly to Food Bank for the Heartland, a longtime nonprofit partner focused on fighting food insecurity.

Shefsky said supporting the organization aligns with one of NFM’s core community priorities.

“We value how much that they do for our community, and we’re happy to support them,” he said.

Shefsky said the goal is to leave Berkshire visitors with one final impression of Omaha, and one more reason to return.
