The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday that they discovered USPS rural letter carrier Brandi Reynolds dead at a home in Hays, North Carolina, after she had reportedly called authorities for help.
Investigators said William Craig Durham was arrested in connection with the incident.
He was charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.
The United States Postal Service confirmed that Reynolds was killed while on the job.
Durham appeared before a judge Monday and was ordered to be held without bond.
Reynolds’ family shared a photo of her.

Sister station WXII spoke with neighbors who said they “loved Brandi and that she was a wonderful mail lady who went above and beyond to help them by bringing packages to their doors.”
Over the weekend, neighbors held a prayer circle to remember Brandi.
