THIS WAS A UNANIMOUS DECISION FROM THE CITY COUNCIL LAST YEAR. OMAHA POLICE TOLD KETV THE STORE AT 42ND AND BEDFORD IS A HOT SPOT FOR CRIME. North Omaha grocery store adopts changes to address crime concerns
A North Omaha grocery and liquor store will adopt new measures to address crime concerns following a unanimous city council decision. TNA Grocery, formerly known as JNJ Grocery, will retain its liquor license. The Omaha City Council asked the shop to complete a longform liquor license application earlier this year.Omaha police identified the area of 42nd and Bedford streets last year as a crime hotspot last year.The business agreed to contract security on weekends, connect exterior security cameras to police’s network, remove alcohol advertisements from its windows to allow views outside, and join the neighborhood association. “That neighborhood engagement piece, that community support for cleanup and litter removal. Those are all proven ways that we uplift our neighborhood. It’s a great way to champion safety, beautify neighborhood, and also to ensure the success of a small business,” said Councilmember Lavonya Goodwin.
