Police said the investigation found the incident started in “an ongoing off-campus dispute,” and during the incident, a 14-year-old boy “swung” a knife at another 14-year-old boy. School security then stepped in to break up the fight.

The boy with the knife was arrested for attempted felony assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. The other teen was street released for assault.

In a letter to families, Omaha Central principal Eric Behrens said the altercation occurred in the hallway and the school resource officer immediately responded.

The SRO also requested additional law enforcement officers to assist with the situation, officials said.

Behrens wrote that the school will take “appropriate disciplinary action for the students involved.”

The case will be referred to the Douglas County Attorney’s Office.
