Omaha adds $30 million expansion to Salvation Army Community Center
OMAHA, Neb. —
A $30 million expansion officially opens a new chapter for the Salvation Army’s North Omaha Community Center.
The project, near 24th and Manderson streets, nearly triples the size of the original building by adding a gym, classrooms, a technology center, and a kitchen to expand services for children and families in the neighborhood.

“My hope and prayer are that the children and youth who come here will have some of the same kinds of experiences that john and I had growing up in north Omaha, and that their lives will be molded and shaped by the officers, the staff, the coaches, the programs, the mentors and the friends that they meet here at this hour,” Viv Ewing, first lady of Omaha, said.
City leaders said the investment will strengthen North Omaha for generations to come.
The new kitchen can now prepare about a thousand meals each weekday, which is four times the capacity of the previous facility.
