Omaha mayor, local leaders launch Heartland Honors 9/11 campaign
OMAHA, Neb. —
Local leaders gathered on Tuesday at an Omaha firehouse to launch the Heartland Honors 9/11 Initiative.
The regional campaign is a way to thank first responders while remembering the lives lost on 9/11.

From Sept. 1 through Sept. 11, honor those who serve by displaying a sign, volunteering, or simply by saying thank you.
Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. said that everyone is welcome and encouraged to engage, with no act being too small.
He was joined Tuesday by the Omaha Police Department and the Omaha Fire Department and thanked them personally.
“One of the things I recalled when I saw the movie ‘9/11’ was seeing those officers and firefighters running toward the danger. That’s what these men and women do every day, so I just want to say thank you on behalf of the citizens of Omaha,” Ewing said.
