Omaha man appears in court for upgraded charges after crash killed 10-year-old, 5-year-old

OMAHA, Neb. —

The 28-year-old man accused of driving drunk in a crash that killed two children in Omaha is now charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide while driving under the influence.

According to police, a Subaru Impreza was attempting to turn when it was hit by an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu. The impact of the crash ripped the Subaru in half.

Omaha police said 10-year-old Prestin Strassenburg and 5-year-old Zaiden Strassenburg were killed as a result of the crash.

Tanner Hunt appeared in court Monday for the upgraded charge after Zaiden died from his injuries.

Prosecutors said Hunt was driving at about 98 mph one second before the impact and had a blood alcohol level of .095.

Omaha Public Works changed traffic signal timing at the intersection where the crash occurred.
