Last December, officers were called to the NP Mart on N 24th Street.
The caller reported that a shirtless man, later identified as Hart, wearing blue jeans, attempted to remove her grandchild from her vehicle.
She said she had left the 2-year-old inside the vehicle while she went into a business to make a purchase.
According to the police report, the woman looked outside and saw Hart holding the child in the vehicle’s back seat.
The report stated that a security officer confronted Hart, who returned the child to the vehicle before leaving the area.
When officers arrived, they located Hart walking east on Cuming Street. He was taken into custody without incident.
According to the police report, Hart claimed that “he believed that the grandchild was his child and that he wanted to take the child to his aunt Jody’s house.”
