Big Brothers Big Sisters helps Omaha students get ready for school
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands helped local families prepare for the new school year during its annual Back-to-School Picnic on Sunday.
OMAHA, Neb. —
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands helped local youth and families prepare for the new school year during its annual Back-to-School Picnic on Sunday.
The event at Miller Park Pavilion provided families in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program with free meals, family activities and community resources.

Students were able to pick out new backpacks filled with donated school supplies. Big Brothers Big Sisters said it planned to distribute more than 350 backpacks to help students begin the school year prepared and confident.
Families also received hygiene and household essentials, including school staples such as Clorox wipes and Kleenex.
“We just want everyone set and ready to go,” said Brittany Perry with Big Brothers Big Sisters. “It’s for home and for school just so everyone can be set and ready.”
Representatives from organizations including the Red Cross, Charles Drew Health Center, EducationQuest, Youth Mart, Omaha Public Library’s Mobile Library and Food Bank for the Heartland were also on hand. Other resources included period supplies, diapers, pill safes and a community clothing exchange.
