Omaha officials say surrounding buildings safe, stable near Blackstone streetcar construction
OMAHA, Neb. —
City of Omaha officials gave an update Wednesday on Farnam Street in Blackstone and Streetcar construction in the area.
In June, a structural collapse left a hole in Blackstone near Brother’s Lounge.

Omaha Assistant Director of Public Works and City Engineer Austin Rowser said at the time that the building’s foundation wall collapsed.
Steve Jensen, deputy chief of staff for economic development for Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr.’s office, said Wednesday that they are monitoring the site for changes that could indicate concern for instability. Jensen said the surrounding buildings are safe and stable.
He said they put mitigation measures in place, including a pump to get water out. A berm was added, which is intended to keep water out as well, officials said.
Jensen added that barricades are in place for a reason and the public is asked not to cross their barricades.
He said the future of the Brother’s Lounge building is in the hands of the owners.
“Seeking solution that is in the best interest of all,” Jensen said.
Residents in the area and Brother’s Lounge building owners told KETV each rainfall in the past few weeks has left standing water in the roadways near 38th and Farnam streets, including heavy rainfall Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Jensen said officials made the decision to delay the Streetcar Project brand and design announcement, which was scheduled for Aug. 6, adding that it is more important to keep focus on Farnam Street.
“If we get something resolved soon, it will have no impact on the streetcar,” Jensen said.
