Omaha police arrest two in connection with a crash-turned-shooting that injured four people

OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha police arrested two people in connection with a crash that turned into a shooting.

The incident happened on Friday just before midnight near 30th and Willit streets.

OPD said officers were called to the scene for a two-vehicle crash that was upgraded to a shooting call.

According to OPD, witnesses said a black Chevrolet Silverado sideswiped a black Audi sedan before leaving the scene. Witness along with the owner of the Audi confronted the suspect inside the Get Down Ultra Lounge. Officers said witnesses told them the Chevy driver, identified as 31-year-old Corey Keys, refused to exchange information.

A news release from OPD said Key was with Jamila Curtis, 37, who had a gun on her, and Key assaulted her before taking the gun.

OPD said Keys allegedly pistol-whipped another woman before threatening several others with the gun. Then, police said, he allegedly fired at bystanders, resulting in a 47-year-old man getting hit by gunfire.

Police said another person at the bar exchanged gunfire with Keys before he left.

In all, two women and a man were assaulted.

The man who was taken to the hospital after getting shot is in critical condition, and his injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

Curtis was treated for her injuries, and then she was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, CCW-prohibited place, and CCW-under the influence.

Keys was later found leaving his residence in Papillion and was taken into custody by Sarpy County law enforcement. He was arrested for first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault, terroristic threats, two counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and four counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony.

OPD noted Keys is on federal pre-trial release for an unrelated offense.
