Omaha police identify suspect in road rage shooting that left driver critically hurt

OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha police identified the 38-year-old man who was arrested after a road rage incident that led to a shooting.

Nathan Hess is accused of second-degree assault and two felony weapons charges in the incident, which critically injured a 35-year-old man, Omaha police said.

Authorities responded to a call of a shooting around 1 p.m. Monday near 90th and West Center Road at the Walgreens in the area.

Omaha police said the man was taken to Bergan Mercy in critical condition. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators determined the victim was driving recklessly when he pulled up next to a van at a red light. Omaha police said the driver of that van, Hess, and his passenger exchanged gestures at that red light with the victim.

During this exchange, Hess claimed they heard a loud noise and thought they were being shot at, Omaha police said. Hess then began shooting at the victim.

Officers determined the victim did not have a weapon, investigators said.
