Omaha police investigate hit-and-run crash that sent pedestrian to the hospital with critical injuries

OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha police said a 63-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. in the area of 38th and Q streets.

According to police, the suspect vehicle was traveling east on Q Street when it hit a parked 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The impact pushed the Trailblazer into another parked vehicle.

Police said the 63-year-old woman was between the two vehicles when the crash occurred and was pinned between them.

“I was over here in the parking lot, and I heard a big bang,” Justin, a witness, said. “I come out to the street, tried Snapchatting, I couldn’t get my Snapchat in time.”

Justin said he saw the suspect struggle to get their car to work before they fled the scene.

Police at the scene said a pick-up truck, with no plates, was traveling eastbound on Q Street when it hit a white SUV.

Witnesses, who work and live in the area, said crashes happen all the time on that street, but they haven’t seen a pedestrian get hurt.

“Went down the street trying to see if the runaway car was down there,” Justin said. “And then I came back, and I seen a lady laying on the ground.”

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
