Three families were displaced Saturday morning after a driver crashed into an apartment building near 127th Street and Gail Plaza, leaving the structure temporarily uninhabitable.According to the Omaha Police Department, officers were called to the complex around 8:30 a.m. for a noise complaint. Before officers arrived, police said the suspect got into an unregistered vehicle and crashed into the corner of the apartment building, causing significant structural damage.Investigators said the driver then got out of the vehicle, went back into his apartment and immediately began drinking alcoholic beverages.When officers arrived, they found a blood trail leading from the wrecked vehicle to the suspect’s apartment. Police said the blood trail indicated the driver had gone through the windshield.The suspect suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to Bergan Mercy for treatment.Omaha Chief Building Inspector Mike Wilwerding later deemed the building uninhabitable until structural repairs can be completed.Contractors spent Saturday stabilizing the damaged corner of the building and taping off the area as inspectors assessed the extent of the damage.
