BILL, AND HE WANTED TO THANK HIM IN PERSON. WELL, THE CINCO DE MAYO FESTIVAL IS QUICKLY APPROACHING. IT LANDS ON TACO TUESDAY THIS WEEK, NEXT WEEK. EVERY YEAR, THE SOUTH 24TH STREET CORRIDOR TRANSFORMS FOR THE EVENT. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S MADISON JOINS US LIVE WITH A LOOK AT WHAT’S TO COME. HEY, MADISON. HEY, JULIE. YEAH. RIGHT NOW THE SOUTH 24TH STREET CORRIDOR IS CURRENTLY OPEN TO ALLOW TRAFFIC, BUT SOON THIS AREA BEHIND ME WILL BE COMPLETELY BLOCKED OFF, ALLOWING PEOPLE TO ROAM THE BOOTHS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY LINE THIS ROAD HERE. CASA DE LA GUTIERREZ ORGANIZER SAYS THE ANNUAL CINCO DE MAYO EVENT BRINGS PEOPLE FROM, IN AND OUT OF STATE TO ENJOY THE CELEBRATION. THE EVENT INCLUDES LIVE MUSIC, FOOD FROM LOCAL SOUTH OWNED BUSINESSES, RIDES AND BOOST TO SHOP AROUND. THE CEO SAYS THE PREP FOR THIS EVENT YEAR. THEY’VE BEEN PREPPING FOR THIS EVENT YEAR ROUND TO MAKE IT AS MEMORABLE AS POSSIBLE. AND HE SAYS GIVEN RECENT EVENTS, THIS YEAR’S THEME OF FAMILIA IS IMPORTANT TO THIS COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW WITH THIS KIND OF THE ATMOSPHERE AROUND THE COUNTRY AND THIS AND THAT, OUR COMMUNITY HAS BEEN HURTING A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE OF BUSINESSES HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BIT SLOWER BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE SCARED. AND SO AT THE SAME TIME, WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS BECAUSE WE NEED THAT ECONOMIC DRIVE. WE NEED PEOPLE TO COME IN. AND SO THIS WILL BE REALLY IMPORTANT FOR BUSINESSES TO HAVE PEOPLE COME FROM ALL OVER. SAYS THEY’RE ADDING A NEW ELEMENT TO THE CINCO DE MAYO EVENT THIS YEAR, WITH A KICKOFF CONCERT THAT WILL BE HAPPENING NEXT WEEKEND. South Omaha prepares for Cinco de Mayo festival with new kickoff concert
Omaha’s South 24th Street corridor is set to host the annual Cinco de Mayo festival, bringing live music, food, rides, and booths to the community. Casa de la Cultura’s organizer said the event attracts people from both in and out of state to enjoy the celebration. The CEO, Marcos Mora, said they prepare for the event year-round to make it as memorable as possible, emphasizing this year’s theme of family as an important focus for the community. “Especially right now with just, kind of, the atmosphere around the country and this and that. Our community has been hurting a little bit because of businesses, has been a little bit slower because people are scared. And so at the same time, we’re looking forward to this because we need that economic drive. We need people to come in. And so this will be really important to business is to have people come from all over,” Mora said. Mora also said they are adding a new element this year with a kickoff concert next weekend featuring Latino music and culture.
