Open Door Mission coordinates Adopt A Student program to aid children experiencing homelessness
OMAHA, Neb. —
The Open Door Mission is handing out backpacks.
Their Adopt A Student program partners community members and donors with kids who are experiencing homelessness and are staying at the Open Door Mission right now.

The program is running on Monday and Tuesday, with organizers collecting about 127 backpacks over the next two days.
“What we’ve asked the donors to do is to get them a brand-new backpack, at least one new school outfit to wear on their first day of school and a brand-new pair of shoes so they can go to school feeling confident,” Kristen Dineen, Open Door Mission public relations coordinator, said.
The Open Door Mission also said that they get some of the same families donating year after year.
