Omaha FBI seizes 71 firearms and $40,000 in gun trafficking, money laundering case
Over 70 firearms and $40,000 seized by Omaha FBI following arrest
OMAHA, Neb. —
Over 70 firearms and $40,000 were seized by the FBI before making an arrest Tuesday. Omaha’s Homeland Security Task Force and Violent Crime Task Force worked together to arrest Jose Gerardo Ruiz Alonso for firearms trafficking and trade-based money laundering.
According to court documents, federal agents searched Alonso’s business and residence on Tuesday. Reports said they seized 71 firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition from the business in addition to two firearms and more ammunition from his home.

Court documents said the FBI began looking into Alonso in September of 2025 after First National Bank of Omaha flagged suspicious activity in an account belonging to Manuelitools LLC, which is a business owned by Alonso.
Someone informed the FBI that Alonso was illegally in the U.S. and involved in gun trafficking. Authorities found that Alonso entered the country on a tourist visa in 2012 and overstayed that visa and was subject to removal.
Documents said in July 2026, the informant did a monitored firearm purchase at Alonso’s Omaha business. Investigators said Alonso showed the informant a safe that held multiple rifles and handguns, as well as at least 15 handguns displayed in a different room.
Investigators said the informant paid Alonso $1,500 for three handguns. Later, agents traced one of the purchased guns and found that it was manufactured outside of Nebraska and was connected to interstate commerce.
The criminal complaint file said during the arrest, Alonso admitted that he was in the country illegally and knew he was prohibited from possessing firearms. He said he acquired many of the weapons through parking lot transactions at gun shows or markets where people were not required to show IDs. Court documents also alleged he said he had received guns for a family member who could purchase firearms legally.
Alonso made his first appearance in court on Wednesday, where the judge set his preliminary hearing for July 31. He will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals until then.
